Ukraine’s justice system is on the verge of systematic changes which can shape its future efficiency and sustainability. This was one of the first mediation advocacy campaigns implemented in Ukraine. This collaborative effort was particularly concentrated in the Volyn oblast. Over a five year period the Center for Legal Aid and USAID worked with judges from around the Oblast to enhance their awareness of the benefits of mediation. I was asked to be a guest speaker at a climactic meeting between judges from throughout the Oblast, representatives from the USAID and lawyers from the Center for Legal Aid. I contributed an analysis of mediation within the United States’ court system and offered an adept synopsis on the future of mediation in Ukraine’s courts.
